Brindisi DOP, which takes its name from the capital city of its production area, allows a number of wine production categories. Negroamaro is here too the star of the red wines, while the white must contain a minimum of 80% of Chardonnay and Malvasia Bianca, either alone or blended together. Many of the wines may bear the variety on the label: Negroamaro and Sussumaniello among the reds, and Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Malvasia Bianca, and Fiano for the whites; if listed, the red grapes must amount to no less than 85% in the blend, and 90% for the white varieties. The term Riserva is applied to red wines that undergo a maturation of at least 24 months.
Categories: Rosso (red), Bianco (white), Rosato (rosé), Spumante (sparkling), Riserva (reserve), Novello (nouveau).
